Welcome to the Muddy Charles Pub an MIT Campus Staple Since 1968
“Where Great Minds Unwind”
We have welcomed everyone from Nobel Laureates to graduate students, played host to entrepreneurs and their start-ups, and enjoyed global exposure. Most of the patrons are MIT graduate students, and prices are kept affordable.

The Muddy Charles Pub is located on the first floor of Walker Memorial (Building 50), situated along the Charles River with a view of the Boston skyline as seen from Cambridge.
All About the Muddy
The Pub accepts cash only, and is only open to MIT affiliates. This includes students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as their friends and family. Check out out the ATM page on where to find the nearest ATMs in the area
Be sure to bring a MIT ID and a physical US government issued ID or Passport showing proof of age (21 + only)
On weekends when the Muddy Charles Pub does not have regular hours, the pub can be rented for private events organized by MIT students, faculty, staff, or affiliates.
You are welcome to supply food for your event, and a staff bartender will serve beverages.
All event requests must be received by the Muddy no later than two weeks before the scheduled date of the event.

Can I use a credit card at the Muddy?
We only accept cash at the Pub. Check out this page for ATM locations.
Can I bring my own food?
Yes, you can bring your own food. We do not sell food at the Muddy but anyone is welcome to bring food in.
Can I reserve the Muddy?
Yes! If you are interested in hosting an event, check out our events page for more details.
Can anyone come to the Muddy?
Only people who have both an MIT ID and are over 21 with physical US government issued ID or Passport showing proof of age (21 + only) are allowed. MIT alumni, staff, faculty, and guests of MIT affiliates are also welcome as long as they have a physical ID showing proof of age.
